Real Bride: Jennifer Breame
From puppy love to Parisian proposals to the shores of stunning Lake Orta, experience Jennifer’s big day
“Steve proposed on holiday at Disney Land Paris – we had actually taken our little girl there for her birthday and Steve had secretly planned all of it. Disney Land was our first holiday together 10 years before that and he knew we would get married around a lake so proposed around the lake there in the evening”
When and where did the big day take place?
The big day took place on 10th July 2015 at Lake Orta, Italy. It was in the town of Orta San Guilio. The wedding ceremony was held in the town hall gardens where I arrived by rowing boat and the reception was held in three locations. A little bar for the first reception drinks whilst we waited for the surprise boat to pick us all up for a boat trip on the lake which then stopped at a beautiful lakeside restaurant (L’Ustaria Cà dal Rat) that we hired exclusively for our wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. The boat then took us all back to the main town at midnight.
When did you start planning?
Steve proposed Jan 2014 and planning started once we visited Lake Orta in June of that year.
Where did you get your dress?
Is that the sort of dress you thought you would go for or was it a surprise?
Not at all after trying on nearly 80 dresses at other shops, Jade the assistant in the shop asked me if she could pick me a dress before I had even tried anything on and I knew this was the one before she had even done it up.
How did you arrive at the ceremony?
I arrived by rowing boat with my Dad. The aisle comes off the lake and my Mum was waiting there for me to walk me down the aisle with my Dad.
Did you have anything unusual during the ceremony?
We really wanted a bongo plyer for the evening but was unable to get someone to come out to Italy or get an Italian bongo player. After the ceremony when walking to the main square there was a random musician playing a steel drum. This is not often seen in Orta San Guilio. Our Best Man surprised us and had the musician come play and party with us on the boat and reception this added to our day immensely as we already flew out a performer from the UK, Arthur Walwin and they played together…everyone loved it!!!
How did you accessorise to make your wedding day look unique?
I added a cathedral length veil to compliment the amazing long aisle. For the evening I removed the cover-up and added a vintage belt and forehead piece.
What was the inspiration or colour theme for your wedding?
There wasn’t. I knew I wanted fresh white and green flowers. The flower girl dresses were picked randomly as I just loved them and knew they would suit the girls perfectly so that’s where the pink come from I suppose which was implemented into my bouquet.
Any unusual games or entertainment? Impromptu game of twister?!
No just the performers and the boat trip it was a very relaxed and chilled wedding day. We did however have a beach party the next day which was FAB!!!!
What tips do you have for new brides picking their wedding dress?
Don’t rule out anything and listen to the assistants in the shops, they see dresses on brides everyday.
What was your favourite moment from the day?
The boat trip a unique and wonderful way to spend the day with all of our closes loved ones and letting them see more of the lake that we truly love.
Where did you honeymoon?
We had a few days to ourselves whilst out in Italy and are planning a honeymoon this year however we have not yet decided the location.
